Bullseye Billiards 4.0: Shot Data Changes

Version 4.0 includes a broad update to the data behind the 400 bundled Core and Precision shots. The changes improve the accuracy of shot diagrams, aiming information, and proficiency evaluation.

This update affects the catalog data used by the app. It does not delete or rewrite previous practice attempts.

Summary of Changes

Compared with the 3.3 catalog data:

Attribute Shots changed
Positioning thresholds 399
Pocketing thresholds 156
Aim 12
Tip contact 1
Stroke speed 0
Difficulty 0

Core Shot 6 was the only shot with no change to any of these attributes.

Positioning Threshold Recalibration

The largest change was a catalog-wide recalibration of positioning thresholds.

Positioning is evaluated using the maximum allowed distance between the intended cue-ball position and the player’s actual result. A smaller allowed radius is stricter, while a larger radius is more forgiving.

Across the catalog:

  • 337 shots received smaller positioning radii.

  • 62 shots received larger positioning radii.

Each affected shot moved in the same direction at the Casual, League, and Tournament levels.

This should not be interpreted as 399 independent decisions to make drills harder. The thresholds were recalculated as shot geometry, cue-ball paths, curves, aim data, and multi-ball modeling were improved. The net result was stricter positioning evaluation for most shots.

Most individual adjustments were small. Of the 399 Tournament-level radius changes, 361 were no greater than 0.025 table diamonds.

Pocketing Threshold Changes

Pocketing thresholds changed for 156 shots at one or more player levels.

Pocketing is evaluated using the minimum required make percentage:

  • A higher percentage is stricter.

  • A lower percentage is more forgiving.

The number of affected values differs by level:

Player level Stricter More forgiving
Casual 72 84
League 60 52
Tournament 42 39

The 156-shot total is the number of unique shots affected. It does not mean that all three player-level thresholds changed on every shot.

Aim and Tip-Contact Corrections

Twelve shots received aim corrections. These changes primarily corrected catalog errors, reversed cut directions, or aim categories that did not accurately match the updated shot geometry.

Core Shots 50 and 51 had their shot diagrams switched. Their layouts had previously been associated with the wrong shot. Scores were preserved but now appear under the corrected shot identity.

Core Shot 141 was the only shot with a tip-contact change, moving from right to bottom-right to match its backspin and right-sidespin guidance.

Attributes That Did Not Change

No structured stroke-speed values changed.

Some instructional wording was revised, such as replacing “softest” with “slowest,” but these are guidance-text changes rather than changes to the stored speed attribute.

No difficulty labels changed. Difficulty and proficiency thresholds are separate data fields, so a stricter threshold does not mean that a shot moved to a different difficulty tier.

Effect on Existing Scores

Existing attempts and scores remain stored exactly as recorded. Version 4.0 does not delete, replace, rescore, or rewrite historical attempts.

However, some derived results may change because the app evaluates stored history against the current catalog data. This can affect:

  • shot proficiency

  • skill ratings

  • Coach recommendations

The underlying attempts remain unchanged. Only calculations that depend on the updated thresholds may produce different results.

Bundled catalog thresholds are stored with each shot and loaded directly by the app. They are not dynamically recalculated when a catalog shot is opened. Custom Shots and the Shot Builder use a separate threshold-calculation process.
